DR. ART SUTHERLAND TO SPEAK AT LUNCH AND LEARN SERIES



Dr. Art Sutherland will speak at the Lunch and Learn Series hosted by Gifts of Life Ministries, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 @ 12:00 p.m.  The church is located at 1542 Jackson Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Lunch and Learn is a new ministry of the church designed to foster to a better understanding of topics that are germane to people in the community.  Speakers in this series will typically  speak on topics straight from the headlines.  Dr. Sutherland's talk will focus on THE AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE ACT (OBAMACARE). Come out and get your questions answered about the act and how to enroll.

Dr. Sutherland is a retired physician. He is working with The Healthy Memphis Common Table to improving health literacy and to eliminate social disparities and health care inquities.  He is also the Tennessee Coordinator, and a National Board Member of Physicians for a National Health Program-advocating for a Singer-Payer system of national health care reform to cover everyone in our country.  PNHP has been working for health care justice for over 25 years and is on record that "Health Care is a Human Right". Dr. Sutherland lives in Memphis and attends St. Patrick's Catholic Church. R3 CONTRIBUTOR GEE JOYNER TO SPEAK AT LUNCH AND LEARN SERIES


 R3 Contributor Gee Joyner will speak at the Lunch and Learn Series hosted by Gifts of Life Ministries, Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 12:00 noon.  The church is located at 1542 Jackson Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee.  Lunch and Learn is a new ministry of the church designed to foster a better understanding of topics that are germane to people in the community.  Speakers in this series will typically speak on topics straight from the headlines.  Professor Joyner's talk will focus on contemporary topics from his newly published book, HE TALK WHITE: THE SCHOLARLY AND ARTISTIC WORKS OF A WRITER.  An anthology of sorts, Joyner's text deconstructs the negative depiction of African Americans in mass media while reconstructing what it means to be Black in America in the 21st century. A collection of op-ed pieces, scholarly essays, and a short story of fiction, "He Talk White" is sure to evoke thought and dialogue concerning the conundrum of race, as well as sexuality and religious affiliation, in the United States.
Gee Joyner is a professor of English at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee and co-producer and host of the web series The Pastor and the Professor.
