Social Justice Ministry Fund
On February 2-4, 2016, for our Winter Revival, we here at Gifts of Life Ministries focused on Black Lives Matter. We felt at the time that many people of faith wrestled with their commitment to their faith and the BLM movement. At the time, what we hope to demonstrate was that a person could be a person of faith, especially within the Christian tradition, and supportive of the social movement Black Lives Matter.
Also at that time, under the direction of our pastor, Rev. Dr. Andre E. Johnson, we started our Social Justice Ministry Fund. Started with the offerings from the revival, we envision to use this fund for a myriad of social justice concerns such as bail, non-violent social action training, teaching and education, support of grass roots efforts, meals, programs, and other fundraising efforts. So far, this ministry has been only "in house" supported only with members from the congregation. However, due to the recent events in Memphis and due to the growing efforts on the ground to "stay woke," we feel now is the time to invite others to participate.
