Andre Johnson named Netters Professor at MTS


Congratulations to Faith in Memphis panelist Dr. Andre E. Johnson, who has been named Dr. James L. Netters Assistant Professor of Rhetoric & Religion and African American Studies at Memphis Theological Seminary.
Johnson teaches classes in prophetic rhetoric, black church, African American theology, rhetoric and religion, pulpit rhetoric, race, and hip hop theology. He also is an instructor in Communications and African American Studies at the University of Memphis, and he serves as Senior Pastor of Gifts of Life Ministries.
He is currently editing the works of African Methodist Episcopal Bishop Henry McNeal Turner under the title “The Literary Archive of Henry McNeal Turner.” The first volume was just been published. The second volume will be published soon. He’s also writing a book on Turner called “The Forgotten Prophet: The Prophetic Rhetoric of Bishop Henry McNeal Turner.”
A service to recognize Johnson’s appointment will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Mt. Moriah-East Baptist Church.
