Rev. Melvin Watkins will serve as guest preacher at the Foolishness of Preaching Festival on Thursday June 21 at 7:00pm at Gifts of Life Ministries located at 1542 Jackson Ave in Memphis, Tennessee. Pastor Watkins is a native of Memphis, TN and is the Co- Pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist Church-Westwood in Memphis, Tennessee, where Dr. James Netters is the Senior Pastor. Pastor Watkins is a United States Air Force Veteran and received his call to preach the gospel in 1996 while stationed in the country of Turkey.Pastor Watkins is also a missionary. For three years he served the people of two African nations: Sierra Leone and Mali, there he planted churches, taught in Bible Schools, and encouraged many pastors to faithfully continue their Christian ministries.
With an extensive background in children and youth ministries, Pastor Watkins strives to teach the bible with simplicity so that all may understand and pursue a personal relationship with God. He received a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies / Urban Ministry from Crichton College and a master’s degree in Divinity from the Memphis Theological Seminary. Pastor Melvin Watkins is married to Loie (Tyler) Watkins and they have three sons Joshua, Isaiah, and Daniel.
Special guests that night include members of the music ministry of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. We will serve dinner at 5:30pm and prayer/praise service starts at 6:30pm. The host pastor is Rev. Dr. Andre Johnson
